Based in Hilo and Kona, we pride ourselves on creating a warm, supportive community where every individual is empowered to thrive.

Position: Support Specialist - Learning Center

In this role, the right candidate will support our program participants both at the Learning Center and out in the community in Kailua-Kona, providing direct support services and transportation. This position combines two essential functions: assisting with daily Learning Center programming and driving participants to and from the center as well as to community activities. While this role is currently part-time, there are opportunities to increase hours for candidates seeking full-time work.

  • Encourage and support participation in community, recreational, educational, and social activities, promoting inclusion and independence.
  • Support communication and social interaction with peers at the Learning Center.
  • Build positive, respectful relationships and maintain a consistent, compassionate presence, responding to each participant's needs with patience and dignity.
Documentation & Team Communication
  • Complete case notes and required documentation before the end of each shift.
  • Track participant progress and communicate updates with the team.
  • Follow all organizational policies, procedures, and care plans.

Transportation

  • Safely transport participants to and from the Learning Center and community-based activities.
  • Load and unload participants and any needed equipment or cargo, ensuring safety and comfort throughout.
  • Maintain accurate records of pickups, drop-offs, and mileage.
  • Monitor and report any vehicle maintenance needs, and maintain a clean driving record and well-maintained vehicle.
  • Track fuel, maintenance, and vehicle inspection/registration.
Qualifications

No experience? No problem! We're looking for compassionate, motivated individuals and provide full training to set you up for success. Required qualifications:

  • 18 years or older

  • High School Diploma or GED (or ability to demonstrate key skills)
